The 5th ISA Forum of Sociology will take place in Rabat, Morocco on July 6–11, 2025. The overarching theme of this conference is: Knowing Justice in the Anthropocene.
The Call for Abstracts is now open until October 15, 2024.
I’m organizing three sessions for this event and invite everybody to submit abstracts to these sessions.
Climate Justice and Trade Unions in Global Perspective
The climate crisis and the policies set-up for reducing emissions to net-zero will have an enormous impact on habitual ways of working and living in large parts of the world. This session will discuss concepts of climate justice as well as policies, initiatives and strategies by labour unions worldwide. It investigates the emergence of key ideas, debates and strategies in the trade union movement in a variety of economic, institutional and climate policy frameworks.

Governing Digital Commons: Diversity, Inclusion and Democratic Participation
Despite the growing power and influence of large multinational companies there are countermovements based on the idea of digital commons: free and open-source software, Wikipedia and other collaborative websites, the Fediverse as a federated form of social media, platform cooperatives etc. This session will discuss the limits as well as concepts and solutions for a more inclusive and democratic governance of digital commons.

Myths and Realities of Digitalisation
Digitalisation is closely linked to hypes that promise more than they can deliver and that play with the myths and images of science fiction. While it is often difficult to distinguish between myth and reality, myths also shape the way reality changes. Against this background, this session will discuss the myths and realities of digitalisation from a sociological perspective.
